The (Ongoing) Story of Star Fyre Stables - Part 17

As she was walking back to the arena with her yellow, third place ribbon, the sorrel horse from the trailer beside her looked up and pinned his ears at Dodge. In response Dodge bared his teeth and pawed at the ground. "Hey" Amy said sharply, "Stop that, mister!" At her voice a head popped out form the other side of the trailer, and a boy about eighteen or so strode over to the sorrel horse. He smiled apologetically. "Sorry about him. He likes to posture to other stallions, but he's real nice if he knows you." He shook his dirty blond hair and grinned. "So who's this big guy?" He gestured to Dodge. Amy dismounted and said "This is Dodge," she replied, offering a half smile. This guy seemed friendly enough. "What kind of horse is he," she asked the boy. "He's a paint, but the poor guy doesn't have his color", he answered with an exaggerated frown.
At that moment Sarah trotted over on whisper from the practice arena. Hardly stopping to even nod at the boy and his paint horse, she said excitedly, "I want to enter her in a jumping class." Amy smiled at her. "Well there is a hack class with cross rails after this one. Hurry up and get registered!" Sarah trotted off towards the registration table. "Well my class is right after hers. I better get going. See you later uhhh?" Amy broke off and looked at him questioningly. "Oh. Dustin. And you?" he asked. "Amy." She replied swinging herself into the saddle. Raising her crop in farewell, she trotted through the crowd after Sarah. She caught up just as Sarah was entering the arena. Amy watched as Sarah and her horse hacked both directions then lined up to jump cross rails. Sarah and Whisper went second and Amy thought that they looked great. Apparently the judge thought so too because Sarah and Whisper strutted out of the arena with a bright blue ribbon.
